"The Shroud is a ruinous fog that has corrupted nearly all of Embervale. Extended contact with the Shroud is deadly, even for you."

Exploration

"Your inner Flame protects you from the Shroud, but not indefinitely."

Entering Enshrouded areas (indicated by a white or red fog) starts a timer at the top of the screen. If it runs out, the shroud consumes you. There are various items that can allow you to survive for longer or shorter periods. Entering deadly shroud (indicated by a red coloration to the fog) will cause shroud time to deplete much quicker, and is not recommended. Various hazards can turn normal shroud into deadly shroud, such as the (explosive puffballs).

Various ways exist to restore shroud time. (respawn points) restore infinite shroud time by standing near them, and (those noisy canisters) will restore (amount of time). (potion name) restores (amount) of shroud time.

Some items exist which reduce maximum shroud time, such as the guard of the north armor.

Upgrading the flame reduces the prevalence of deadly shroud, and allows the accessing of new areas more easily. Shroud can also be quantitatively reduced by completing various challenges, such as killing the (explosive puffballs) near Fort Kelvin. This can allow the acquisition of shroud resources without becoming enshrouded yourself. Unlike the flame upgrades, these changes are not permanent and must be redone to reduce the shroud volume.

Hazards

Hazards in enshrouded areas include fell enemies, deadly shroud, lava, (explosive puffballs), and the shroud itself. Other hazards, like traps, can be stacked on top of these dangers depending on location.

Elixir Wells

"The Shroud springs forth from Elixir Wells throughout Embervale. Fell the Shroud Root at their depths to receive skill points for all nearby Flameborn."

The best way to fell a shroud root is with an axe, though other weapons will be required for the multitudes of enemies surrounding them.
